Hooked, 2020 aims to show the importance of the Snake River and its habitat through layer and pattern. The Cutthroat Trout, a signature species in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, is painted onto a vibrant, multi-layered background. Each layer is interconnected and displays the fragility of the ecosystem. A top-down look shows snowfall to mountains to rivers to animals and lastly to us. The fish feels like it is mounted onto a crumbling, wallpapered wall but the twist is the flowing underwater weeds and bubbles rising up. This implies that the scene is live, showing that the river and our health are intricately tied together.

The Snake River watershed is foundational to the overall health of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, providing key habitat for wildlife, myriad recreational opportunities and clean drinking water for thousands. Wild Walls, Jackson Hole Public Art’s mural initiative, aims to reach broad audiences with conservation messages through public art.
