Young Man Reading

Commissioned by Kathe Henry in memory of her son Scott Opler, for installation at the Center for the Arts. The life-size sculpture of Scott sits in the courtyard, on a bench, inviting others to join him. Amy Bright Unfried worked from many photographs of Scott as a teenager and adult, coming to know well his characteristic poses and expressions. She then worked with a live model of his similar build. Kathe cried at seeing her son’s likeness. His figure was cast at Art Castings of Montana. The bronze bench on which Scott sits was fabricated by another Jackson sculptor John Simms, with a granite seat by Just Stone of Jackson.
