Ben Roth’s “Watch for Deer” was originally commissioned for the new Walgreens building on Broadway in 2013, an example of Public Art and private developer partnership. Bencor is the first private developer to include public art in its project under the new, voluntary Public Art Guidelines approved by the Town of Jackson that same year.

The building’s location along Karns Hillside is within a Mule Deer migration path, and the artist was inspired by the original deer silhouettes that landowner Pete Karns would place on the hillside for many years. The design also references Walgreens’ pharmaceutical purpose: willows contain medicinal salicylic acid. After a major landslide called for that building’s removal, the piece was moved up the road to the Town of Jackson’s Pump House, adjacent to the ArtSpot.
