Opening Celebration for “STEP INTO A TUNNEL OF POWER, PLAY, AND POSSIBILITY,” a New Mural Created by GAP! Girls

JACKSON, WYOMING, May 29, 2025 / Jackson Hole Public Art is excited to announce the completion of a new 80-foot mural titled STEP INTO A TUNNEL OF POWER, PLAY, AND POSSIBILITY and located in the South Highway 89 underpass. The community is invited to the opening celebration at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3rd.

This mural was completed in partnership with Girls Actively Participating! (GAP!) and support from the Community Safety Network (CSN) and Jackson Hole Community Pathways.

Created by 24 GAP! Girls in collaboration with lead artist Shannon Hart and guided by GAP! Program & Operations Director Victoria Wade, the new mural is a celebration of female empowerment, imagination, and voice. Drawing on the energy of sticker culture—bold words, playful icons, lightning bolts, and hearts—the mural reflects what’s possible when young people feel safe, seen, and supported.

From start to finish, the mural is a joyful expression of creativity and confidence. Each element was hand-drawn by students to represent their unique perspectives, hopes, and dreams. The tunnel has been transformed into a vibrant passage of color and courage, inviting community members to walk or ride through and reflect on the power of youth voices.

“This mural is more than just decoration—it’s a powerful message,” said Shannon Hart. “It shows what can happen when we create space for young people to express themselves freely and safely.”

Community members are encouraged to visit the mural, slow down, and soak in the powerful messages conveyed by the students’ artwork.
