Press Release: WildWalls 2022 Announcing Three Artist Opportunities
Jackson, WY: Jackson Hole Public Art seeks submissions for three unique 2022 WildWalls opportunities including two permanent new large-scale murals, woodblock steamroller prints, and temporary wheat paste murals. WildWalls is an annual event during which regional artists transform Jackson’s downtown streetscape into an open-air gallery from late May through September, this year kicking off with a LIVE steamroller printmaking event on May 21. Artists are asked to respond to current research from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) with support from collaborating nonprofit organizations, creating cutting edge visual works that engage the public and spark wonder.
Now in its third summer, WildWalls brings the art and science communities together in a highly visual, interactive, and educational event – it is an art show without the confines of a traditional venue, making it accessible to thousands of people daily. WildWalls 2022 will highlight important conservation work happening in the GYE, to promote greater understanding and awareness about local water quality, our wild and scenic rivers, critical trout habitat, the status of whitebark pines, deer migration routes and more. Each WildWalls mural and print will include augmented reality (AR) features, directed by partnering scientists and nonprofits and designed by professional AR developers to make each mural come alive.
Artists living within the GYE are invited to apply and can participate in one of three ways:
Apply to paint one of two large-scale outdoor permanent murals (commission $4-6k)
addressing the Wild & Scenic Snake River, sponsored by Dave Hansen Whitewater & Snake River Fund
addressing Bear Living/Recreating In Bear Country, Best Practices & Bear Safety, sponsored by Grand Teton National Park Foundation & Shirt Off My Back
Apply to create a large-scale steamroller woodblock print (commission $1k)
Virtual Workshop by the Art Association with guest artist Josh Winkler on Saturday, March 12 + mandatory attendance at steamroller print event on Saturday, May 21
Submit a high-resolution new or existing image that will be reproduced as a temporary wheat paste mural (commission $500)
