Finalists Announced for Stilson Transit Center Public Art

JACKSON, WYOMING, April 19, 2024 / Six finalists have been selected to create site-specific concepts for the Stilson Transit Center (Transit Center) public art. Jackson Hole Public Art put out a nationwide call-to-artists in February and the finalists were selected by a panel of community stakeholders.

A selection panel, made up of local arts and culture professionals and representatives from the stakeholder team, reviewed nearly 180 qualifications and selected six accomplished artists for the next phase of this process. These six artists work in a range of materials and hail from across the United States. The finalists are listed below:

Priscila de Carvalho (Long Island City, NY)

Mark Chatterley (Williamston, MI)

Christopher Janney (Los Angeles, CA)

Patrick Marold (Nederland, CO)

David Michael (San Diego, CA)

Janet Zweig (Brooklyn, NY)

For their concept proposals, finalists are encouraged to consider Jackson Hole’s history, the unique character of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the specific geological and natural forces of the area, as well as current and past inhabitants of the region. The Transit Center is sited near wildlife crossings and within migration corridors, so the artists are also invited to explore the concept of movement of wildlife, people, and geological time, reflecting the culture, values, and diversity of the region. The artwork will be commissioned by the Town of Jackson and owned by Teton County with public art project administration provided by JH Public Art.

Site-specific concepts are due on June 3, 2024 and will be reviewed by the selection panel, with the winning artist announced in late July. The public will be invited to review and comment on the proposal at the ‘I Love Wilson’ Jubilee on June 16, the June 26 People’s Market, and a meeting at the Center for the Arts. Please check the JH Public Art website for dates, times and locations. Installation of the finished work will occur in tandem with the construction schedule, likely in 2026.

ABOUT THE STILSON TRANSIT CENTER

The Stilson Transit Center will be a 2,900 square-foot transit facility with a 400-space park-and-ride lot that includes electric vehicle charging stations, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and covered bicycle parking with available electric charging opportunities. The Transit Center will serve commuters coming from Idaho, residents of Jackson Hole, and visitors. Artists chosen as finalists are encouraged to consider Jackson Hole’s history, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the unique geological and natural forces of the area, and the current and past inhabitants of the region.
