Stilson Transit Center
Artist Announced for Stilson Transit Center Art
Public Art: Stilson Transit Center
Artist: Patrick Marold
Location: Stilson Lot, 1455 Beckley Park Way, Wilson, WY 83014
Sponsored by: Teton County/Town of Jackson
Jackson, WY: Patrick Marold has been selected to create a three-dimensional installation to be integrated into the site of the Stilson Transit Center, scheduled to open in 2026. Marold’s piece will serve as a welcoming beacon to all who visit the Transit Center.
Jackson Hole Public Art will host Marold this fall for a site visit during which Marold will engage with community members to learn more about the Transit Center facility while expanding his knowledge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Marold lives in Colorado and has been visiting the region since he was a child.
"The glass column concept will be constructed in layered and laminated low-iron glass, and framed in with a stainless steel pedestal and edges. Each side will reveal a porous and abstracted collection of elliptical holes filled by light. The rounded stones [represented within the glass] are shaped by their journey with the river and reveal a broad and diverse range of shapes that the voids reflect in the layered glass sculpture,” said Marold in his proposal.
A selection panel, made up of local arts and culture professionals and representatives from the stakeholder team, reviewed nearly 180 qualifications and selected six accomplished artists for the next phase of this process. These six artists work in a range of materials and hail from across the United States. The finalists are listed below:
Priscila de Carvalho (Long Island City, NY)
Mark Chatterley (Williamston, MI)
Christopher Janney (Los Angeles, CA)
David Michael (San Diego, CA)
Patrick Marold (Nederland, CO)
Janet Zweig (Brooklyn, NY)
For their concept proposals, finalists are encouraged to consider Jackson Hole’s history, the unique character of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the specific geological and natural forces of the area, as well as current and past inhabitants of the region. The Transit Center is sited near wildlife crossings and within migration corridors, so the artists are also invited to explore the concept of movement of wildlife, people, and geological time, reflecting the culture, values, and diversity of the region. The artwork will be commissioned by the Town of Jackson and owned by Teton County with public art project administration provided by JH Public Art.
This will be the first of several opportunities for the public to review site-specific concepts from finalists and provide feedback. The winning artist will be announced in late July.
