Call For Submissions: 250 Portraits
250 Portraits invites Wyoming residents of all ages to create self-portraits using a limited color palette. The portraits will be displayed in five grids of fifty throughout downtown Jackson during the nation’s 250th anniversary year. The project highlights individual identity and collective belonging across Wyoming’s communities, supported by a self-guided walking map and opportunities for other towns to host their own installations (digital files and wheatpasting How-To provided by JHPA).

Digital Capture Guidelines
Whether using a professional camera or a smartphone, the goal is a "flat" and clear representation of your work. IPhone camera photos are okay!
Lighting: Use even, natural light. Outdoors on a cloudy day or indoors near a large window (without direct sunlight hitting the art) works best.
Avoid Glare & Shadows: Ensure no "hot spots" from flashes or overhead lights appear on the surface. Stand back and capture the entire portrait in the frame. Try to avoid extra space around the portrait.
No Backlighting: Do not place the artwork in front of a window or bright light source; this will wash out your colors and details.
Teachers and Educators with large classes:
We want to make this process as easy as possible for busy educators. If you have a large volume of portraits, we are offering two additional options:
Mail-In Service: We can mail you a pre-stamped, pre-addressed package. Simply tuck the portraits inside and send them to us. We will professionally capture the images and mail the original artwork back to you.
On-Site Photography (Jackson Area): If your school is based in Jackson, we are happy to come to your classroom and photograph the portraits for you.
Please email somes@jhpublicart.org if you would like assistance with capturing portraits.
