Press Release: Finalists Announced for Teton County/Jackson Recreation Wellness Center Public Art
Jackson, WY: Five finalists have been selected to move ahead to the conceptual design phase for public art as part of the Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center Expansion Project. A nationwide call-to-artists managed by Jackson Hole Public Art was announced in August, with submissions due on September 30. A selection panel made up of community stakeholders and Teton County employees reviewed over 120 qualifications, distilling down to five highly accomplished artists to continue on to the next phase. The finalists are:
Priscila de Carvalho (Long Island City, NY): Working as a multimedia artist, de Carvalho has included both painting and sculpture in many large-scale, site-specific public art installations nationally and internationally.
Stacia Goodman (Minneapolis, MN): Using the ancient medium of mosaics in a modern way, Goodman’s creations are a conduit for sharing inspiring, honest stories unique to place, people and culture, with dozens of projects in diverse spaces across the United States.
Michele Gutlove (Natick, MA): Trained as architects, Gutlove and Design Studio GH are experienced in working with community groups and public agencies, creating glass art installations for public spaces across North America.
Andrey Kravtsov (New York, NY): Specializing in large-scale murals over ten years, Kravtsov has completed vibrant public art projects all over Europe, Asia and the US.
Ben Roth (Jackson, WY): Guided by the natural world, Roth sculpts, builds furniture, makes wall-hung art, and installs public art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and across the West.
These five artists work in a range of materials, from mosaics to murals to metals, and are from across the United States. They are tasked with envisioning artwork for common areas in the Teton County/Jackson Parks & Recreation’s newest phase, which is currently under construction. The commissioned artwork will welcome visitors, celebrate the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle, inspire physical activity, and create a sense of community wellbeing and connectedness. Conceptual designs are due on February 1, 2023 and will be reviewed by the selection panel, with the winning team announced in March. Installation of the finished work will occur in tandem with the construction schedule, likely in early 2024.
